On the flight to St. Louis, we had over 20 knot tailwind, and a broken cloud layer with bases at about 4,000 feet and tops of around 5,500 feet
|
The first hour, the clouds were solid and I had to stay below then at about 3,500 feet, which was hot, humid, and bumpy
|
About Fort Smith Arkansas, the clouds loosened up a bit, and I was able to get up to 7,500 feet to fly the rest of the way in the cooler, smoother air

Ziggy was given up by his previous owner because he was vicious

Sometimes it's not the dog's fault after all

I almost brought him right back home with me!

Despite having a nice bed and a cozy, enclosed space, he was not happy with the bumping and bouncing. He doesn't really like cars much either.

People ask me how I know where I am going. I have this tablet computer mounted on the control wheel, and it shows my airplane at the bottom, the path I'm going to fly, and all the airports, highways, lakes, and mountains around. In this photo I had turned on the Infrared Satellite picture so I could see where the clouds were. My Ground Speed is 172 kts, and I am 19 minutes from overflying Fort Smith, Arkansas.

On the flight back home from St. Louis there were clouds going up to 10,000 feet. I was motoring along at 8,500 feet and had to dodge them.

Ya always have to make sure there's a way down again. As long as there are holes in the cloud cover below, I can stay up here.

My GPS showing I am an hour 23 minutes from Sallisaw (KSJV), and fighting a 26 knot headwind (119kts ground speed). You can see the clouds scattered around my flight path, but nothing too serious.

Despite the work involved in dodging clouds, it's just pure heaven up here!
